GLOW
2019
GLOW celebrates the Indian festival of “Holi” with a “Kathak” dancer. Holi is an ancient Hindu festival that is now celebrated all over the world by non-Hindu communities as well. It heralds the arrival of spring and the blossoming of love as the sun sets on another winter. It signifies unity, diversity, love, the victory of good over evil, and rebirth. Kathak is one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance. The term Kathak is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit word “Katha” which means “story,” and “Kathakar” (i.e. Kathak dancer) which means “the one who tells a story.” The mural is an invitation for viewers to love, laugh, forgive and forget, and repair the broken parts of ourselves. It is a reminder that we are all beautifully unique in our own ways, and yet the same as we write our own vibrant life stories.
